Challenges

Build habits together with friends using HAID challenges.

Challenges help you build habits together with friends. Whether you want to track total distance, time, or just show up consistently, challenges make it fun to stay active together.

Challenge Types

When creating a challenge, you choose how activities are scored:

Check-in Count

Every qualifying activity earns 1 point. Great for challenges focused on consistency, like "Who can complete the most workouts this month?"

Distance

Points equal the distance covered in meters. A 5km run earns 5,000 points. Perfect for distance-based goals like "Who can run the most kilometers?"

Duration

Points equal the activity duration in seconds. A 30-minute workout earns 1,800 points. Ideal for time-based challenges like "Who can accumulate the most exercise time?"

Challenge Rules

Each challenge has rules that determine which activities count:

Activity Types

Choose which activities qualify: running, cycling, walking, swimming, workouts, or any combination. You can also allow all activity types.

Minimum Duration

Set a minimum activity length. For example, require activities to be at least 15 minutes to prevent very short activities from counting.

Minimum Distance

Set a minimum distance requirement. For example, require at least 1km for an activity to count.

Daily Activity Limit

Limit how many activities count per day. Most challenges use a limit of 1, meaning only one activity per day counts toward your score.

Manual Activities

Choose whether manually logged activities count, or only activities tracked by connected devices.

How Scoring Works

Basic Scoring

For each qualifying activity, you earn points based on the challenge type:

  • Check-in Count: 1 point per activity
  • Distance: Points equal to meters covered
  • Duration: Points equal to seconds of activity time

Best Activity Selection

For distance and duration challenges with a daily activity limit, HAID automatically picks your best activity of the day.

Example: You set a daily limit of 1 activity for a distance challenge. You run 3km in the morning and 10km in the evening. HAID automatically counts your 10km evening run (10,000 points) instead of the 3km morning run (3,000 points).

This happens automatically. You don't need to do anything, HAID always picks the activity that earns you the most points.

For check-in count challenges, the first activities of the day count (up to the daily limit). There's no "best" concept since all qualifying activities earn the same points.

Timezone

Challenges use the creator's timezone to determine day boundaries. If the challenge creator is in New York, a "day" starts and ends at midnight Eastern Time for all participants.

FAQ

Why doesn't my activity count?

There are several reasons an activity might not count:

  • Wrong activity type: The activity type isn't allowed by the challenge rules
  • Too short: The activity doesn't meet the minimum duration requirement
  • Too short distance: The activity doesn't meet the minimum distance requirement
  • Daily limit reached: You've already recorded enough activities for this day
  • Better activity exists: For distance/duration challenges, a longer activity from the same day was recorded
  • Manual activity: Manual activities aren't allowed and you entered this one manually
  • Outside period: The activity was recorded before the challenge started or after it ended

I did two runs today. Which one counts?

It depends on the challenge type:

  • Distance or Duration challenges: Your longest (highest-scoring) activity counts automatically
  • Check-in Count challenges: The first activity (or first few, if the daily limit is higher) counts

What timezone does my challenge use?

Challenges use the creator's timezone. If you create a challenge while in Los Angeles, days start and end at midnight Pacific Time for everyone, regardless of where participants are located.

Can I change challenge rules after it starts?

No, challenge rules are locked once the challenge begins. This ensures fairness for all participants.

What happens if I leave a challenge?

Your activities are removed from the challenge leaderboard. You can rejoin if invited again, but your previous activities won't be restored.
