Scafell Pike Trail Marathon
The Scafell Pike Trail Marathon is a 44 kilometre trail race in Borrowdale, Keswick, Cumbria, that includes a route over Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and licensed by the Trail Running Association. Participants must be aged 18 or older on race day.
The course is a single lap over hilly, mountain terrain. The route is marked from the start to Seathwaite. The mountain section between Seathwaite, Styhead, Scafell Pike, Esk Hause, Styhead and back to Seathwaite is unmarked; although it follows main trails, navigation ability is essential on this section. Navigational devices are permitted and a GPX file will be available to download.
Runners are asked to carry suitable clothing, footwear, and sufficient personal nutrition and drinks for the full route. The event is not suitable for novice trail runners and is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Facilities at the race headquarters, Crow Park on Lake Road, Keswick, include water, toilets and baggage storage. There are no distance markers, changing facilities or showers. A coffee van will be on site selling hot and cold drinks and cakes. Every competitor receives a bespoke medal and event photographs will be available to download. Prizes are awarded in the overall male and female categories and in age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
