Keswick Lakeland Trails - Derwentwater Trail Races
Keswick Lakeland Trails stages a set of marked and marshalled trail events that start and finish at Fitz Park, Keswick CA12 4NF. Courses use footpaths and bridleways around Derwentwater with panoramic views of Skiddaw, Blencathra and the northern fells. Underfoot is mainly hard packed trail with occasional muddy sections; there are no stiles on the route and some sections pass through private land open for race day only.
Distances offered:
- 5K Derwentwater Sport Trail - age 12 plus, no time limit.
- 10K Derwentwater Trail Run - age 16 plus, 2 hour time limit; prizes only for Race start.
- 15K Derwentwater Trail Race - age 18 plus, 2 hour time limit for Race start.
- 15K Derwentwater Trail Challenge - age 18 plus, 3.5 hour time limit, 60 minute cut off at 4.8K.
Event village at the start and finish provides live music, race commentary, food and drink stalls, merchandise and basic facilities. One water station serves the 10K and one serves the 15K; competitors are asked to bring a reusable cup or carry their own water. Safety measures include on site medics, radio communications, course marshals and instructions to close gates behind you. In ear headphones are prohibited; bone conduction devices are permitted. Dogs are not allowed on the course. Parking is provided at Keswick School with a short walk to the event centre; cars with four or more occupants may be eligible for free parking. Lakeland Trails in Keswick 5th September 2026 – 5k, 10k & 15k
With the fells resplendent in purple hues of heather, Lakeland Trails in Keswick is the perfect way to start the Autumn Series. Starting and finishing at Fitz Park, in Keswick, the 5K Derwentwater Sport Trail, 10K Derwentwater Trail Run, 15K Derwentwater Trail Race and 15K Derwentwater Trail Challenge are circuits along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways, taking in panoramic views of Derwentwater, the surrounding peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra and the northern fells. Underfoot conditions are generally good for those used to trail running, but expect a bit of everything! The course has no stiles, so there is nothing but the hills and the infamous Bottomless Bogs of the Glenderaterra Valley to break up your rhythm.A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you're new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaits you!
