Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running
The Loch Ness Marathon is a distance event held in the Scottish Highlands, taking participants alongside the shores of Loch Ness. The event offers a variety of distances to accommodate different levels of participation:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- River Ness 10K & Corporate Challenge
- River Ness 5K
- Wee Nessie (a run for children)
The marathon course follows a route through the Highlands, ending with a festival at the finish line. General entry for the marathon distance typically sells out in advance, though places may remain available through official charity partners.
Participants in the marathon and 10K receive electronic timing. The entry fee includes several items for runners: a commemorative finisher's medal, a technical t-shirt, a goody bag, and a downloadable finisher's certificate. Additionally, marathon participants are provided with transport to the starting line and complimentary post-race food.
A sports expo and a festival take place during the event weekend in Inverness, which serves as the local hub. The city is accessible via an international airport and is connected by train, bus, and car hire services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
