The South Hams Ultra
The South Hams Ultra is a scenic 100 mile, 44 mile and 26 mile circumnavigation of South Hams in Devon. The route follows the South Hams Way for most of the way, using existing public rights of way, bridleways and coastal paths, traversing parts of Dartmoor National Park, beautiful South Hams countryside, and five estuaries.Distances:
- 100 miles: cut off 35 hours. Ascent: 4890 meters
- 44 miles: cut off 14 hours. Ascent: 1947 meters
- Marathon (26 miles): cut off 8 hours. Ascent: 1183 meters
The Route
The circumnavigation is run in an anti-clockwise direction, starting at the Flete Estate, before crossing the Erme estuary. The route picks up the South Hams Way to Bigbury, using the tidal road to Aveton Gifford and rounding the Avon Estuary. It continues to Salcombe, crossing via the ferry to East Portlemouth. The coast path leads through Dartmouth and on to the Dart Valley Way to Totnes, before heading to Buckfastleigh via Dartington and up onto the moor, down to South Brent via the Avon Dam and back onto the moor at Peek Gate. The route skirts the southern edge of Dartmoor, exiting the moor at South Brent on the Two Moors Way. It then picks up the Erme Plym trail south of Ivybridge, which takes you all the way to Noss Mayo and back to the finish at Mothecombe on the Flete Estate.100 milers start at Mothecombe car park, The Flete Estate, Plymouth PL8 1LB.
44 milers start at the Old Town Mill in Totnes and finish at Mothecombe.
Marathon Runners start at the Old School Community Centre in South Brent and finish in Mothecombe.
