Run Whitstable & Herne Bay Summer 5k, 10k and half marathon
This event stages three distance options along the Whitstable and Herne Bay waterfront, with the event hub at Hampton Pier Recreation Ground, Herne Bay, CT6 8EJ. The hub is on the large grassed area to the left of the children’s play area. Public car parking opposite the hub on Swalecliffe Avenue is limited to about 100 spaces. Herne Bay railway station is approximately a 10–15 minute walk from the venue.
Distances offered:
- 5k out and back, turnaround at 2.5 km
- 10k out and back, turnaround at 5 km
- Half marathon initial 1.1 km out and back then two laps of the 10k section
The course follows a path along the waterfront and is described as flat; road running shoes are recommended. The course may be altered up to the day of the event. Buggies are permitted and the route is wheelchair friendly. Marshals will be positioned around the course. Water is provided at the start/finish and at points along the route; participants may bring extra fluid if required.
Race numbers use a chip-on-bib system and must be visible on the outer garment for timing. Results are produced live and can be viewed at the timing tent and online. Finishers receive a medal; sweets and additional partner-provided items may be available at the finish. Trophies are awarded to overall winners of each distance. Event Day Information
ARRIVAL AND REGISTRATION
Our Whitstable & Herne Bay half marathon starts at 9.30am and the 5k and 10k run will all start at 10am. The Kids Run will start at 11.15am.
Registration will be open from 8am and will close at 9.50am so please arrive nice and early. For the kids entry is open until 11am. The event hub is located on the large grassed area, to the left of the children’s play area at Hampton Pier Recreation Ground.
Please note you will collect your race pack at registration on the day of the event.
Race information will be sent by email pre-event and this will tell you what your race number is so you know where to queue on the day of the event. You will be able to view all your race details and race number by logging in to your Fix Events profile.
You will be using our Chip on Bib race numbers and it is important these are displayed on your outer garment to ensure 1) We can see your race number when running and 2) To help with the timing system to read your time.
There will be marshals around the course to support and encourage you.
Water is available at the start/finish and along the run route. If you require additional fluid between these points please bring your own.
AFTER THE RUN
Results go live as the event is taking place and can be viewed at the Results Base timing tent when you cross the finish line, however these also go live to The Fix Events website.
Every runner receives a medal at the finish line and trophies are up for grabs for the overall winners of all distances.
Water is available once you cross the finish line.
Sweets will be available at the finish line along with any additional products that may be supplied by any of our event partners.
Travel - How to get to the venue and find the event hub
By Car
The event hub is based at Herne Bay and parking is available as below. Please note the carpark is very limited in space so try and park prior to getting to this location. Please note on Hampton Pier Avenue DO NOT park on the double yellow lines. Parking officers will be checking and managing this area so we do not want you to get a ticket.
We recommend taking a bit more time and parking slightly further away. (within 5-10 minutes) This helps us and all the residents. For Canterbury City Council parking options view here

Herne Bay raliway station is the closest and around a 10-15 minute walk

Follow signs for Herne Bay and then follow directions to street address shown above. Once on Hampton Pier Avenue, you will see children’s play area and the free public car park ( spaces are limited to 100 cars )
