Starburster (5 or 10 miles)
Starburster is a twilight trail event held at Hurn Forest with the assembly point at Hospital Services Cricket Club. The route follows the main forest trail in an out and back format and runs in low-light conditions, so on-course visibility is a factor.
Head or chest torches are essential and additional lights are encouraged. Trail shoes are recommended but not required because the track is hardstanding and well maintained. There is an aid and drinks station at the start and finish offering a selection of savoury and sweet items; no plastic cups are provided.
Number pick-up is at race registration before the start. Toilets are available inside the cricket club and there is space to leave bags. Minimum ages apply: 16 years for the 5 mile event and 17 years for the 10 mile event.
Distances
- 5 miles - one lap of the 2.5 mile out and back course
- 10 miles - two laps of the 2.5 mile out and back course
Twenty percent of entry fees are donated to Forestry England to support forest and trail maintenance. The event is licensed by the TRA and will be run under UKA rules. Parking near the start is limited; a public car park is available on Boundary Lane, about 0.4 miles away. Public transport options include a nearby bus stop at St. Leonard's Hospital and train stations in Bournemouth and Branksome. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Our Starburster events start at sunset (Saturday, 5pm) and take in the twilight sights and sounds of the wonderful Hurn Forest. Starting at Hospital Services Cricket Club, this out and back route follows the main trail through the forest. Choose from either 5 or 10 mile events.
As this is a sunset / twilight event, head / chest torches are essential. Additional lights are encouraged; the more 'stars' the better! Starburster derives it's name from the Fontaines DC song of the same name - it's loud, it's proud, it's boom-y & it's a bit different. A perfect pick-me-up for January evening, really!
Trail shoes are recommended but not essential as the track is hardstanding and well maintained.
