Lakeland Trails Marathon in Coniston
The event is a series of trail runs based at Coniston Sports and Social Centre, taking in a full circuit of Coniston Water on marked footpaths and bridleways. Courses pass Tarn Hows, Beacon Tarn and the edge of Grisedale Forest, with views of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags. Routes are waymarked and marshalled and include a mix of hard packed trails and occasional muddy sections.

Entry rules and timing vary by race. All events require entrants to be at least 18 years old. Time limits are in place and differ by category, for example the Marathon Race has a six hour limit while some Challenge entries allow longer limits; the 10k has a two hour limit and the 5k has no time limit. Prizes are awarded only for runners in the designated Race starts. Support includes multiple feed and water stations on the courses; competitors are asked to bring a re-usable cup or carry their own water. Safety measures include medic cover, radio communications and marshals on course. Dogs are not permitted on running courses and in ear headphones are not allowed; bone conductor headphones are permitted. An event village offers food, drink, race commentary and live music. The Lakeland Trails Marathon takes in a complete circuit of Coniston Water along fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways.
