South Downs Way Ultra Run
This 30 mile trail run starts and finishes on Harting Down in West Sussex. The route covers sections of the South Downs Way and nearby paths, visiting Beacon Hill, Cocking Down and Kingley Vale. The course goes through ancient woodland, small villages and nature reserves. Kingley Vale contains twisted ancient yews and a grove of veteran trees that are among the oldest living trees in Britain.
The event is organised as a non-competitive group run led by an experienced trail and ultra running guide who is also a mountain leader, qualified guide and coach. The route is managed by the guide and participants can ask running questions during the day. Participants are advised to have run at least 22 miles in training and to be comfortable maintaining an average trail pace of around 10 min/mile (6:15 min/km) for prolonged periods. Steeper climbs are often hiked and the group will regroup regularly.
