The Winter Green Man Ultra
The Winter Green Man Ultra is a winter edition of the Green Man Ultra held on the Community Forest Path around Bristol. The event uses the same route as the Green Man Challenge and runs the course in an anti-clockwise direction. The two distance options share the same checkpoints and finish but have different start locations.
Key Features:
- Chip-timed checkpoints
- Mandatory kit checks before the race
- Required online registration
- Entrants must be 20 years of age or over.
- The course is self-navigation; organisers provide downloadable written directions and GPX files.
- Experienced "timelords" run to target times (9, 10, 11 and 12 hours) to offer pacing and navigation assistance.
- Competitors must carry mandatory safety and navigation kit such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey Maps 155 and 167 or printed directions, a compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a first aid kit.
Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man T-shirt, a bespoke medal and a signed certificate confirming entitlement to a Woodwose or Woodwight if completed within the 12 hour limit for the 45 mile event. Food and drink are provided at checkpoints. The event nominates Avon Wildlife Trust as its race charity and charity entries are available with a fundraising pledge.
Race Details:
The Winter Green Man Ultra comes in two formats – the 45 mile distance and the 30 mile distance. Both races are held on the same course on the same day and have the same checkpoints and finish, just with differing start locations. Both distances for the winter event will run the course in a ANTI-CLOCKWISE direction. Runners who complete both the summer and winter 45 mile events in the same year will additionally be awarded a prestigious GMU buckle.
