The Lighthouse Marathon and Ultra
The Lighthouse is an organized running event in Cornwall that includes a marathon and, since 2025, an ultra distance. The event base is listed as Sunset Surf Cafe in Gwithian TR27 5ED and it is organised by Bys Vyken Events. An ARC permit number is provided.
Distances
- Marathon: 26 miles from Pendeen to Godrevy lighthouse.
- Ultra: starts at Land's End Longships Lighthouse; joins at Pendeen then 25 miles to finish.
The route follows the coastal path and combines varied surfaces: rocks, sand and tarmac. The organiser warns of mud, water and likely rain. The course includes large climbs and dunes with over 4,000 feet of total ascent; the Ultra has an additional 1,800 feet of ascent.
Support and rules noted in the event information include crew allowed but no support runners on the course. Refunds are available up to four weeks before the start and entries may be deferred up to two weeks before the start; deferrals cannot be refunded at a subsequent race. If the Met Office issues an Amber or Red weather warning the race may be cancelled or held as a virtual event. The organiser also states participants must be medically able, properly trained and appropriately equipped, and that finishers may arrive after sunset due to generous cut off times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
