The District Back Yard Ultra 2026
The District BYU is a Backyard Ultra held in an undisclosed Lake District location. The course offers wide open views, rolling trails and mountain backdrops. Terrain is described as undulating with variation across the loop.
The race follows the standard Backyard Ultra format: one loop per hour, repeated each hour. The official loop distance is 4.167 miles / 6.706 km per yard. Each competitor must complete the loop before the top of the hour to continue. The last person to complete a solo yard is the winner.
Camping is included for athletes and crew as part of entry. Competitors may select add ons for additional tents or camper van parking so site space can be managed. Each competitor is allocated a 3m x 3m pitch for their base. Organisers will provide an aid station with water and basic supplies, but the event is self supported and participants should be prepared to look after themselves between yards.
Entry concessions are available for proven Backyard Ultra performances. Any athlete who has won a Backyard Ultra in the last two years can claim a free entry. Athletes who have completed 30 or more yards at a Backyard Ultra can claim a 50% discount, subject to verification.
Numbers are restricted. Full race pack and final event details will be sent to entrants before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
The Format
One loop. One hour. Every hour.
Complete the yard before the clock hits the top of the hour and you go again.
Fail to complete the loop in time and your race is over.
Last person to complete a solo yard is the winner.
The Course

Expect a runnable trail loop with wide open views, proper countryside character, and the kind of backdrop that only the Lake District can give. As you would expect from this setting, the terrain will be undulating, with enough variation to keep it honest from the first yard to the last.

What to expect
- A proper Heart and Soul Racing atmosphere
- A beautiful Backyard Ultra course in a stunning setting
- Country-themed race vibe with music, energy and character
- A supportive yard for runners, crews and spectators
- The usual BYU suffering, drama and magic as the field starts to thin
This is not just another event.
It is a full experience.
If LSD is rave barn chaos, The District is its country cousin. Same Heart and Soul energy. Different soundtrack. Same rule though.
Go round again.
Who is it for?
Everyone.
If you are brand new to Backyard Ultras, this is a brilliant place to start.
If you are experienced and want a beautiful course with a serious edge, this is for you too.
If you want a race that feels competitive, welcoming, scenic and memorable all at once, you are in the right place.
Why The District?
Because some events are about split times and medals.
This one is about the yard, the people, the place, and seeing what happens when you strip it all back to one loop, one hour, one more go.
And doing it in one of the most stunning settings we’ve ever used.
