South Shields 10 Mile 10th Anniversary
The South Shields 10 Mile takes place on Sunday 2 August 2026 and follows the coastline of South Shields. The course is an out-and-back route heading north from Souter Lighthouse along The Leas, on mixed surfaces. The route is fully marked and marshalled and runs on National Trust land that remains open to the public.
Race headquarters are at Whitburn Coastal Community Centre on the Souter Lighthouse site, postcode SR6 7NH. Car parking is available on the field north of Souter Lighthouse with a £3 parking charge; parking is free for National Trust members. Toilets are provided at Souter Lighthouse and on course near Marsden Grotto. Water and feed stations are available on course and at the finish; paper cups will be provided and runners are encouraged to bring a bottle if preferred.
All finishers receive a special 10th Anniversary medal; entries made by 22 July are guaranteed a medal on race day, later entries may receive medals by post. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers. The event is UKA licensed via the Trail Running Association. The minimum entry age is 17. There is no strict cut-off time and runners will be followed by a tail runner. Transfers are permitted until 30 July 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

- Highlights: Breathtaking views of Marsden Rock, Frenchman's Bay, Sandhaven Beach, and—if you're lucky—even dolphins!

- 8:55am – Safety Briefing
- 9:00am – Race Start
- 11:30–11:45am – Course Completion Window (No strict cut-off. Runners will be followed by a tail runner. We encourage all participants to aim to finish by 11:45am.)

- Terrain: Mixed surface route along the scenic coastline.
- Footwear: Road or light trail shoes both suitable. Light trail shoes recommended if wet.
