Somba K'e SwimRun: An Adventure Race in Yellowknife
Welcome to the third year of the Somba K’e SwimRun event! This unique race, originating in 2002, combines swimming and running in a point-to-point adventure format with multiple transitions between water and land. Unlike traditional triathlon, swimrun requires participants to run and swim with all their necessary gear.
Safety and Gear: For this event, it is mandatory to swim with a swim-buoy for flotation and visibility. Participants must keep all their gear from start to finish. Running shoes suitable for rocky, wet terrain are recommended. Wetsuits are allowed but not mandatory.
Course Details
The actual swim course is subject to change due to variable weather and water conditions. Three distances are proposed:
- The Carmen: Total swimming 1.2 km, total running 1.9 km
- The Experience: Total swimming 2.3 km, total running 8.5 km
- The Adventure: Total swimming 2.82 km, total running 10.5 km
The event is untimed and focuses on fun and trying something new. Aid stations provide snacks and refreshments. Participants must arrange their own return transportation from the finish line at the Fred Henne day use area.
