About the race
Race for Life Basingstoke at War Memorial Park is a community running event organised by Cancer Research UK. Distances on the day include:
- 10k
- 5k
- 3k
The start and finish areas are on grass behind Crossborough car park near the play park. The course runs over grass fields and hard standing paths around the park and includes tarmac, gravel and woodland sections. The 10k route is a double lap of the 5k route and follows tracks and fields around the War Memorial Park. The route has inclines and declines and may become soft or muddy in wet weather. Narrow woodland sections may cause congestion.
There is no parking at the venue. Local car parks are available within a short walk and Blue Badge parking is provided in Crossborough Hill car park. Drop offs are possible via Crossborough Hill, Hackwood Road and London Road. Bus 17 stops nearby with a short walk up Crossborough Gardens; buses 10, 12 and 13 stop at Applegarth Close. It is about a 30 minute walk from Basingstoke train station. There are no cycle racks and no electric vehicle charging at the event.
Available facilities include refreshments and toilets. The event is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for pushchairs. Chip timing is used. Participants receive a fundraising pack, a customisable back sign, training support and a finishers medal. A minimum fundraising target applies. Travel information
By car:
General Event Parking: There is no parking at the venue. There are a number of car parks locally these are:
- Southern Road car park - 5min walk
- Castons Car park - 6min walk
- Castons Yard - 5min walk
- Joices Yard - 8min walk
Please be aware that parking in Crossborough car park is for blue badge holders only.
Drop Offs: Participants can be dropped off at the various entrances to the park via Crossborough Hill, Hackwood Road and London Road.
Blue Badge Parking: Available in Crossborough Hill Carpark.
Volunteer Parking: Please use the information in the General Event Parking.
Electric Charging points: There are none available at this event.
Public transport and pedestrians:
Pedestrians: If you are walking to the event there are multiple entrance points into the park from Crossborough Hill, Hackwood Road and London Road.
Bus: You can catch Bus 17 and walk 5 minutes up Crossborough Gardens to the start line. Bus 10, 12 & 13 also stop at Applegarth Close, this takes approx. 3minutes to the start line.
Train: From Basingstoke train station it is a 30min walk to the start line.
Cycling & Bike Racks: There are none available at this event.

Course
The route includes tarmac/hardstanding/grass/gravel/woodland and is a double lap, with possible congestion entering the narrow woodlands. In poor weather, the grass and woodland may become muddy and slippery, which could increase the level of assistance required. There are also inclines and declines at Basingstoke.
