MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
The MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra is a long-distance trail event following the official Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour. The route covers a single distance of 36 miles and follows the River Esk through upland and coastal terrain, passing Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, the remains of Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge, and Grosmont before finishing beneath the Abbey ruins in Whitby.
The event lists total ascent as 4,054 feet. The course is fully way marked with Esk Valley signs, and organisers provide GPX and Strava routes, an OS route via the OpenTracking website, tape in potentially confusing areas and Premium OpenTracking GPS with live timing and splits. There are five checkpoints with toilet facilities in place or nearby; all checkpoints carry basic food and drinks. First aid medical support is available and a non-returnable food drop bag is permitted at the mid-way checkpoint.
Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat and gloves or buff, capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, a fully charged phone with the race contact, a survival bag and a whistle. The event offers coach transport options between finish and start for booked competitors for a fee, free parking, train access along the Esk Valley line for return travel, and toilets at start and finish. Finishers receive a medal; prizes and trophies are awarded for podium places and a technical tee is available as an optional purchase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
