Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR)
The Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR) takes place in the historic mining town of Cumberland, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. Marking 26 years of operation, the event utilizes the rugged forests, shorelines, and single-track mountain bike trails of the region. Participants must rely on a map to navigate the course through various types of terrain, including ocean views and wooded areas.
The event accommodates up to 1,000 racers across three categories:
- Quest 20K: A paddle and trek-only event consisting of a 5 km paddle and 15 km trek.
- Sport 30K: A multisport option featuring a 5 km paddle, 15 km mountain bike, and 10 km trek.
- Enduro 50K: An endurance distance including a 10 km paddle, 25 km mountain bike, and 15 km trek.
The exact course route and the specific order of the race stages are not disclosed until the day of the event. Trekking and biking portions are often split into multiple stages. Participants are required to carry mandatory gear, and surprise checks are conducted on the course; missing items result in a 5-minute time penalty per item. Kayak rentals are available for those participating in the paddling stages. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
