Mere Sands Mile
Mere Sands Mile is an inclusive canicross event at Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve in Rufford, Ormskirk, Lancashire. The event takes place on 1 November 2026 and is organised by Sporting Paws. It is open to runners, walkers and their dogs and uses the reserve's trails.
The course follows scenic woodland tracks and natural trails that are mostly flat. The main run is timed rather than organised as a competition and no medals are awarded. A short social run around the reserve is offered after the main mile event.

- 1 mile timed run, relaxed format, no medals
- 2.5 km optional social run around the reserve
Facilities at the reserve include an on site visitor centre with a café, toilets and parking. Entries are handled through SiEntries with entry open from 6 March 2026 until 20 October 2026 and an entry fee of £7.50 for the 1 mile event. This is a relaxed, inclusive event with runs timed rather than a competition. No medals will be appointed. The course will take in scenic trails through the reserve’s varied terrain — mostly flat with natural woodland and tracks that are ideal for both runners and walkers. There is a café on site where you can grab refreshments before or after your activity.
Social Run (Optional)
After the main 1 mile run/walk, you’re invited to join a 2.5 km social run around the reserve — a great opportunity to catch up with others and enjoy more of the natural surroundings.
