Maryland Freedom Swim
This is a 2.0 mile point-to-point open water swim across the Choptank River. The race starts on the Talbot County side and finishes at the Sailwinds Park beach access point on the Dorchester County side. The event is supported by paddle craft, motor craft, and the US Coast Guard.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Shore Rivers organization.
Experience Required: This event is for experienced open water swimmers. Proof of open water swimming experience or completion of a one-mile pool swim in under one hour is required.
Wetsuits: Wetsuits may be required if water temperatures are below 58 degrees Fahrenheit and not allowed if above 84 degrees Fahrenheit.
Schedule
- 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM: Pre-race check-in
- 7:00 AM: Swimmer pre-race safety meeting (mandatory)
- 7:15 AM – 7:45 AM: Shuttles to starting line
- 8:00 AM: Start of self-seeded swim waves
- 10:15 AM: Post-event activities begin/AWARDS
The Course
The racecourse is a point-to-point swim. The starting line is at the beach on the Ferry Point Marina in Talbot County. Swimmers will enter in groups of 6.
Safety
Swimmer safety is the top priority, with safety kayakers and boats on the course. All boats communicate via radio.
Race Premiums
Racers receive a swim cap, a Maryland Beach Towel, a gear bag, and other sponsor giveaways.
Athlete Guide
An athlete guide with event details will be sent out in mid-April 2026.
