Kirste 5 Memorial Race
The Kirste 5 Memorial Race is a 5-mile, self-navigational community memorial running event held annually at Hockley Woods in Essex. The race aims to bring together runners of all ages and abilities to support and remember friends and family affected by cancer.
Over its 12-year history (2012-2025), the event has raised a total of £60,000 for cancer-related charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Southend Breast Unit. Profits from each race are donated equally to these causes.
The race was founded in honour of Kirste, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 42 after a battle with breast cancer, during which she raised over £50,000 for charities by running 23 marathons.
The 2025 race was announced as the final running due to challenges with a crowded race calendar, volunteer availability, and financial pressures. However, a new edition for 2026 is planned, with a UK Athletics Race Licence applied for.
