Freedom 5K Run & Walk
Join us for the 25th Freedom 5K on the USA 250th anniversary, July 4th, 2026! This event benefits the American Heart Association and takes place at Lynch Field, Greensburg, PA.
New Features and Prizes
New for this year, in addition to door prizes, we have several raffle baskets! Items include free pairs of running shoes from Saucony & Brooks, a Whoop Band, free rounds of golf at Glengarry golf course, Penguins tickets, and gift cards from Chick-Fil-A and other fun items. Raffle tickets are priced at 3 for $5, 7 for $10, or 20 for $20. We had a record 516 signups last year, including the virtual category, so sign up early!
Registration and Fees
Early registration fee is $17.76 until March 31st. After that, the fee is $20 until June 30th, and then $25. Participants aged 19 and under, and 65 and over, will maintain a fee of $20. You can choose "no shirt" for a $2 discount.
Registration opens the weekend of 2/14/26. We sold out last year, so early registration is recommended. We will reserve a few "heart hero" race day entries if we reach our cap of 500 live entries before race day.
Kids Sparkler Run
A Kids Sparkler run is available for ages 10 & under. Register young sprinters after or during the 5K for $10 per kid, held by the soccer field lawn. Several heats will be held as kids are available.
Packet Pickup and Race Day
Early packet pickup and in-person registration will be on 7/3 from Noon-5pm at Gingerbreadman Running store (5142 Rt 30, Suite 165; Greensburg, PA). Race day registration at Lynch Field will be from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM.
Wave Starts and Course Information
Wave starts will be used again. The schedule is as follows: National anthem and race instructions at 08:25 AM.
- Wave #1: 08:30 AM (runners sub 24 min pace)
- Wave #2: 08:30 AM + 90 sec (runners 24-28 min pace)
- Wave #3: 08:30 AM + 180 sec (runners >28 min pace)
- Wave #4: 08:30 AM + 240 sec (walkers)
The course is an out-and-back. Please stay to the right half of the trail, especially in the tunnel and around its curve, to avoid collisions with potential bikers. A water station is located before the 1-mile mark going out and after the 2-mile mark on the way back. Please do not run on train tracks and stay on the main part of the overpass bridges. We cross one not-so-busy intersection, and the city will provide traffic control, but please glance to ensure no vehicles are attempting to go around barriers.
Teams and Awards
Teams need to be registered by 7/3. Awards: Top 3 male & female runners by gun time (ensure you are in the first wave if you are speedy!). Other awards are chip-timed: Top male & female masters runner (age 40+) by chip time, and Top 3 walkers male/female by chip time. Age group awards are chip-timed.
Runner Age Groups (Top 3): 15/under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.
Walker Age Groups (Top 3): 20-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. All 19/under walkers will receive a small gift.
Virtual Race Option
Can't make it? Run the Freedom Virtual 5K anytime from 7/1 to 7/31. Upload your time to runsignup.com. Shirts can be picked up at Gingerbreadman Running store in Greensburg approximately one week after race day.
Refund Policy
Should the race be canceled due to COVID-19 or other crises, refunds will be given. If the race date is moved to a later day, refunds are optional if you cannot attend.
