Dartmoor In A Day 2026
Dartmoor in a Day is a fully supported cross-country challenge offering two route options: 50 km (Ultra) and 30 km (Challenge). The full route starts at Okehampton, passes Postbridge, and finishes at Ivybridge Community College. The 30 km option begins at Postbridge and follows the remainder of the 50 km route. The course is approximately 50 km (30 miles) and is almost entirely off-road, mainly across wild areas of open moor and remote terrain.
Highlights on the route include East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano, and views along the Erme valley to the sea. Checkpoints with refreshment are located at two road crossings, including Postbridge and Combestone Tor. The finish at Ivybridge Community College provides food and drink.
Entry includes GPS tracker hire. Maps can be downloaded for the Outdoor Active app and a GPX file will be available; organizers recommend using these alongside OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps. Qualified Mountain Leaders provide mobile marshal and first aid cover and can assist with navigation. Cut-off times at the final checkpoint are generous, and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the route. Spaces are limited, and under 18s may take part when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Logistics: Coach shuttle service available as an optional extra from Ivybridge Community College to the start. Departure times are likely to be around 6 am for the 50 km and 9 am for the 30 km challenge.
