Clougha Pike Fell Race - Quernmore
Clougha Pike Fell Race is scheduled for Saturday 20 June 2026 at Quernmore Village Crossroads near Lancaster (postcode LA2 9EG). The senior and under-19 race covers 5 miles / 8 km with approximately 1250 ft / 381 m of climb and reaches the 413 m summit of Clougha Pike.
The route is an out-and-back that begins on pasture, climbs the western flank and follows Clougha Scar over rocky terrain to the summit. The return features a descent through marshy fellside, wooded and twisty lower sections, and finishes with a fast final-field descent. Much of the lower route crosses private farm land and is not available for reccying before the race; there is a public path to the summit from Rigg Lane carpark.
Runners are expected to carry fell-race kit; whether specific kit is required on the day will be weather dependent. Suggested kit for new runners includes a waterproof top, waterproof leggings, map, compass and whistle. Dogs are restricted to the showfield and start/finish field because of farming rules. Parents and guardians must supervise children crossing the road before and after the race; the organiser accepts no responsibility for children at road crossings.
Entry for the senior race is listed at £6 with an additional booking charge and a £1 discount for FRA members. A fell-gate cutoff of 30 to 40 minutes will apply; the exact cutoff will be set according to weather conditions. Prizes are awarded to the fastest finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Clougha Pike Races at Quernmore Sports, normally held on the third Saturday in June. Part of the village country show, including swingboats, tobogan run, childrens races, cakes and teas etc.
Clougha is a 5 mile ‘out and back’ blast taking in the 413m summit of the local hill (Clougha Pike). Starting on pasture land, the route winds its way up the western facing flank of Clougha, along Clougha Scar (rocky terrain) to the summit. What follows is a storming descent through marshy fellside terrain that eventually joins the lower fields following a woody, twisty route that ends with a fast ‘photo-finish’ descent of the final field. This race is ideal for seasoned hacks or those wishing to experience their first fellrace.
Please note no dogs outside of showfield and start / finish field due to farming restrictions. Parents / guardians must supervise their children crossing the road before and after the race. We can accept no responsibility whatsoever for your children on the road crossing. Note new start times. There is a cutoff time at the fell gate – this will be announced at the start.
Access: Much of the lower part of the race route is on private farm land and cannot be used for reccying the route before the race. If you wish to recce Clougha (e.g. Clougha Scar path and summit area) then please head to Rigg Lane carpark where you can pick up the public path that leads to the summit of Clougha Pike.
Kit: Please bring fellrace kit with you. Whether kit is required on the day will be weather dependent. For new runners ‘kit’ includes: waterproof top, waterproof leggings, map of route, compass and whistle. All of this can be tucked away into a bumbag. See the Fell Runners Association (FRA) website for more details.
The fastest runners will receive a prize!
Please note a cut off of 30 to 40 minutes will apply at the fell gate checkpoint. Specific time will be set according to the weather on the day.
