Blue Ridge Running Retreat

Description: The Blue Ridge Running Retreat is a three-day experience designed for runners to explore the trails of Northwest North Carolina. It combines challenging guided trail runs with comfortable lodge accommodations, great food, and opportunities to connect with fellow runners. The retreat focuses on a balance of adventure and relaxation.
Course & Daily Running Adventures
- Day 1 – Remote Parkway Trails: Approximately 10 miles, featuring quiet forest trails with moderate elevation gain and stream crossings, guided by a local expert.
- Day 2 – Scenic & Historic Trails: Approximately 8 miles, showcasing scenic viewpoints, historic landmarks, and hidden gem trails, ending at a local swimming hole.
- Day 3 – Signature Mountain Run: Approximately 7 miles (optional additional miles), offering smooth running trails with the best mountain views of the weekend.
Accommodations and Support
All runs are guided trail runs with transportation to and from trailheads included. The lodge provides pre-run breakfast options and lunch prepared by an on-site chef. Coaching presentations on training, racing, and nutrition are also included. The lodge offers comfortable living areas, a game room, and stunning views. Room options include king suites, queen lofts, and shared bunk rooms.
Runner Experience
The retreat emphasizes community, with afternoons and evenings free for relaxation, exploring, or connecting with other runners. Local activities like hiking, fishing, golf, and visiting wineries are also available.
Practical Details
- Arrival: Thursday afternoon at the lodge.
- Included: Guided trail runs, premium lodge accommodations, trailhead transportation, pre-run breakfast and snacks, lunch, first night’s dinner, coaching presentations, event running shirt.
- Not Included: Evening dinners after the first night.
- Pets: Not permitted.
- Recommended ability: Comfortable running up to ~10 miles on mountain trails.
Organizer Information
12th State Endurance focuses on showcasing Northwest North Carolina's natural beauty through trail running events and coaching. Founded by Brandon Weaver, who also coaches at North Wilkes High School and teaches at Mulberry Elementary School. Andrew Kinder, also a teacher and coach in Wilkes County, is involved in directing and hosting local running events.
