Blencathra Marathon
The Blencathra Marathon takes place on Sunday 6 September 2026 around Caldbeck, with a circular route of 26.4 miles and approximately 5875 ft of ascent. The route visits five Wainwright summits: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra, Mungrisdale Common, Knott and High Pike, and the event start and finish are at Caldbeck Parish Hall, CA7 8EU. Parking is available in the village.
The event is intended for experienced fell and trail runners and for fell walkers able to complete the course within the twelve hour cut off. Entries are limited to those aged 18 and over. The race is fully tracked on Open Tracking and a GPX route is provided subject to minor changes before the event. Two checkpoints are on the course; water is available at checkpoints, snacks are provided at the first checkpoint and hot drinks and snacks are provided at the finish. First aid and event insurance are provided on the day.
Entry fees include a finishers medal, a t-shirt, water at checkpoints and GPS tracking. There is an option to plant a tree instead of receiving a t-shirt through a Trees Not Tees scheme, or to pay to plant a tree in addition to taking a t-shirt. Support runners are permitted but must be self sufficient. Trophies are awarded to the first three finishers in male, female and non binary categories. Race permit ARC/25/0036 applies.

The Blencathra Marathon is a fell event suitable for experienced fell and trail runners, and fell walkers. The route takes in 5 Wainwrights and has an elevation of just under 6000ft.

We are proudly working with Trees Not Tees to give you the option of planting a tree instead of taking a tee. You’ll also have the option of paying to plant a tree as well as having a finishers t-shrt.
Cancellation policy
Bookings may be transferred to another runner, providing this is done 4 weeks before the event. This can be done via our booking partner, Si Entries.You may defer your entry once. We do not offer refunds under any circumstances. You may choose to protect your booking with XCover when you first sign up.
FAQ's
- Will we received a race pack email? We will be emailing final details two weeks before the race, along with a printable route map and description which will include details of the checkpoints.

- Do you have a cutoff time? Yes, we are allowing 12 hours to complete the course.
- Are walkers allowed? Yes, absolutely. Cath and Tim, your happy team of organisers both started off as walkers, and remain very keen walkers. As long as you’re able to complete the course in under 12 hours you are welcome to walk the route
- How old do you have to be to enter? We are accepting runners over the age of 18
- Will there be checkpoints along the route? Yes, there will be 2 checkpoints along the route. Water will be available at the checkpoints, along with snacks on the first checkpoint and at the end of the race.
- Do you have insurance and first aid? Yes we do! First aid will be available on the day if needed.
- Can I use support runners? Absolutely you can. You can have a support runner with you at any point, although they will need to be self-sufficient.
