Beast Of The Beacons Trail Running Event
The Beast of the Beacons is a trail running event on 17 April 2027 based at Henderson Hall in Talybont on Usk within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The route follows marked trails through forests, mountains, rivers and reservoirs and includes a mix of rocky paths, forest tracks and muddy sections. Snow can still be present on the course.
Distances offered:
- 10 Miles / 16 KM
- 20 Miles / 32.5 KM
- 40 Miles / 65 KM
The 40 Mile course uses the 20 Mile route in reverse as a second lap. The event is canicross friendly; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit to run, kept on the lead at all times, and owners are responsible for their dogs. Canicross participants are not eligible for the main trophies.
Checkpoints are described as well stocked and cater for dietary requirements including vegan options. Typical checkpoint supplies include nuts, bananas, biscuits, crisps, electrolytes, soft drinks, water and occasionally homemade cake.
Facilities at the event base include local accommodation within walking distance, food vans, toilets, a coffee van, pubs and cafes nearby, and a full medical team.
A detailed mandatory kit list is required and will be checked at registration; items include waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest or pack, capacity for one litre of fluid, map or GPX file, charged mobile phone, appropriate footwear, first aid items, foil blanket, head torch and whistle. GPX downloads are provided for the 10 and 20 mile routes, with the 20 mile file reversed for the 40 mile. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
