Afoot in Two Dales (The Yorkshire 50)
A 50-mile circuit with approximately 5,500 ft of ascent that runs through Wensleydale and Swaledale, including an ascent of Great Shunner Fell. The walk is scheduled for 18 to 19 July 2026 and must be completed within 22 hours.
The route starts and finishes at Harmby Village Hall, Leyburn, and passes through Redmire, Haverdale, Muker, Great Shunner, Hawes, Bainbridge, Thoralby and West Witton. Checkpoints are used along the route; participants must pass checkpoints within the published opening and closing times or they will be disqualified.
Entry is limited to 250 entrants and is by SI Entries only; no paper entries and no entries on the day are accepted. Early bird fees apply until the end of January 2026, with revised fees from 1 February 2026. Over 18s only, no dogs. Electronic trackers will be used for the first time; the tracker is a small device (approximately 8 cm x 4 cm x 3 cm, 100 g) and must be carried in a top pocket of a rucksack or bumbag. Do not enter if unwilling to carry a tracker.
Entry includes tea and toast at registration, refreshments at checkpoints, a meal at the finish, a finisher certificate, and showers and changing facilities. The event is over moorland and includes night walking; navigational skills are required. A suggested kit list is provided and route materials will be issued at least a month before the event. Full refund up to 1 month before the event (less £5 admin fee per entry). No refund after that date.
