Winter Excalibur 2026
The Winter Excalibur is a trail running event scheduled for 1st November 2026, taking place near Moel Famau. The event HQ is located at Coed Moel Famau car park, CH& 5SH.
Registration on the day opens at 9:00 am for the 17 km race and 9:30 am for the 10 km race. Registration closes at 9:50 am for the 17k and 10:20 am for the 10k.
Pre-ordered T-shirts and hoodies can be collected at registration. Secure baggage facilities will be available at Race HQ.
The Race
The 17 km race starts at 10:00 am, and the 10 km race starts at 10:30 am. Dogs are welcome but must be on a harness or lead throughout the race and will start at the back of the field.
The routes for both events are primarily on trails and footpaths, with some technical sections. Both routes are hilly, and participants are advised to train on hills.

Courses
- 17km Route: 10.8 miles / 17.38 km with 2766 ft / 843 m ascent.
- 10km Route: 6.2 miles / 10 km with 1353 ft / 412 metres ascent.
Checkpoints and Safety
Numbered checkpoints will provide water in containers with taps and snack items. Participants must carry their own refillable bottle. Cups will not be provided, and participants are expected to carry a full water bottle from the start.
The routes will be fully signed with Excalibur logos. Marshals will be stationed at checkpoints and strategic points. Participants are responsible for navigating using their map and compass.
Mountain Rescue will be available on the course, and sweepers will follow the tail end of all routes. Competitors unable to continue should alert a marshal or another competitor; do not go home directly.
Mandatory Kit
All runners must carry waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat or buff, gloves, the supplied map, a compass, a whistle, and a refillable water bottle. Random kit checks will occur in the start area. The Race Director may relax the minimum kit requirements on the day.
Finish Facilities
The event aims to reduce single-use plastic. There will be no plastic bottles of water for finishers. Soup and hot food will be available for purchase. A sustainable memento will be provided instead of a medal.
The start/finish area will have catering facilities selling hot food, tea, coffee, and toilets. Participants are encouraged to stay and cheer on fellow competitors.
