West 100
West 100 is a team-based trail running event in Cornwall that places five runners together to complete a 100 miles route as a self nav team. The organiser offers three current coastal routes: Bude to Gwithian, Coverack to Porthtowan, and Plymouth Sound to Coverack. Teams start together and the aim is to support all five runners to reach the finish within 36 hours.
Entry requires prior experience: completion of a 100 km race in under 20 hours and prior night running experience. The organiser matches team capabilities and asks entrants to be honest about fitness and experience. Runners are transported from the base to the start, crewed for the duration, met by crew every 5 to 6 miles, and returned to the base from the finish. Ferry crossings are bypassed by transport where needed. There are no fixed cutoffs, but limited time is allowed at checkpoints and the crew may ask a runner to retire if the group becomes strung out.
A mandatory kit list is enforced and includes a quality waterproof jacket (10000 mm minimum) with taped seams, windproof over trousers, cap or buff, hydration system (1 l minimum), reusable cup, nutrition and emergency nutrition, first aid kit with blister plasters, a bivvy bag (not a foil blanket), whistle, fully charged mobile phone, waterproof gloves, long sleeve base layer, £20 emergency money, a headtorch of at least 200 lumens with spare batteries, and a spare head or hand torch. Medical incidents are managed by the organiser, who has first aid qualified staff, and a major incident may lead to event cancellation. Participants must provide an emergency contact able to collect them if required and install the Life360 app for tracking.
The entry fee is £110 and is non refundable unless the organiser fills the place; those who complete the event receive a Whythra Bys Vyken 100 miler buckle. If an Amber or Red weather warning is issued by the Met Office the event cannot go ahead and may be rescheduled or held virtually. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
