The Scenic Run
Date: Sunday, June 21, 2026
Location: Aalst, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium
The Scenic Run is not a classic race with ribbons and arrows. It is an adventurous running challenge for runners who love freedom, nature, and a bit of strategy.
There is no fixed course. No imposed direction. Only you, your legs, and the landscape. Your mission is simple: discover as much beautiful nature as possible and get as far away from the starting point as possible. But the clock is ticking! You must also be back at the finish within the time limit, otherwise you will lose valuable points.
A number of 'scenic checkpoints' have been placed in various locations. These are often in special places: a beautiful view, a forest edge, a hidden path, or a stream. Each checkpoint earns extra points.
The race can be run solo or in pairs with cutoffs of 2 or 4 hours. Running fast helps, but insight and timing are at least as important. Those who go too far without a plan risk the way back. Those who run smart get the most out of it.
Your final score will be determined by a combination of:
- your distance from the starting point as the crow flies
- the number of 'scenic checkpoints' you have visited
- how smartly you have chosen your pace and route
- every minute outside the cutoff incurs 1 penalty point
