The MTC Severn Plod Ultra
The MTC Severn Plod Ultra is a challenging 48-mile point-to-point race starting from the Mid Wales Art Centre, Maesmawr, SY17 5SB. The route winds through scenic landscapes, initially moving inland through Holly Bush and Rhyd-y-felin before rejoining the River Severn at Dolerw Park. Competitors will follow the river and join the Montgomery Canal Walk, passing notable landmarks such as Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve, Welshpool, sections of Offa’s Dyke Path, and the Breidden Hills before reaching Montford Bridge, Bicton, and the outskirts of Shrewsbury, with the finish line at a hotel in Shrewsbury, SY1 1PG.
There are four staffed checkpoints offering vegan and gluten-free food options. Competitors must maintain a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour; failure to do so will result in withdrawal from the race. Navigation relies on GPX files and maps as much of the route is not signed and some sections of the Severn Path can be overgrown. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid kit, and emergency food. Entrants must be aged 20 or over.
All finishers will receive a bespoke MTC Severn Plod Ultra medal, and male and female winners will receive trophies. All competitors will receive a complimentary MTC head visor at the start of the race. Entry fees are non-refundable.
