Summits of the North York Moors Ultra
Back for the second year, Summits of the North York Moors Ultra is a foot race over a circular route of around 120 miles, taking in the 10 highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The route passes ancient burial sites, medieval boundary stones, ancient crosses and Bronze Age earthworks. You will follow portions of the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk long distance paths. Your journey will be one filled with expansive views in all directions, over clearly defined tracks and trods that will keep you trotting as you ascend and descend the hills of the North York Moors, your constant companions from the first to the last mile.
You will become immersed in a landscape that would still be familiar to our ancestors from as far back as the Stone Age, you will run over ancient trods and tracks that have been used by Bronze Age tribes, Celts, Viking raiders, medieval Lady's knights and priests.
You will pass burial mounds and ancient crosses all symbolising the constant habitation of this moorland landscape, which was formed millions of years ago, before being sculpted into its present form by glacial activity 30,000 years ago.
Take a journey through time on an unforgettable 120 mile run that will bring you highs, lows, breathtaking views and memories that will last a lifetime as you push yourself beyond the comfort zone...
There will be a warm SilverBackTrails welcome at all the checkpoint locations for each participant, regardless of whether it is your first or hundredth 100 milers.
Circa 120 miles and 16,000 ft of elevation. Over one of the most iconic, beautiful, and ancient landscapes the United Kingdom has to offer.
The race will start and finish at the village hall in the beautiful village of Goathland. For many years the setting for the much loved Police drama Heartbeat.
