Event Overview
The Saltire 24 is an ultra trail race held in Royal Deeside, Scotland, at Knockburn Loch in Aberdeenshire. It celebrates the summer solstice, with participants completing as many laps as possible on a multi-terrain trail beside Kerloch Hill and Fetteresso Forest.Race Options
Participants can choose between time-based events: a 6-hour solo race, and 12-hour or 24-hour races. For the 12-hour and 24-hour races, options include running solo or in relay teams of 3 to 8 members.Facilities
The event provides free on-site camping and access to facilities. These include hot showers, indoor toilets, and heated changing rooms. Electronic chip timing is used for all runners.Prizes and Medals
Prizes are unique, eco-friendly, and locally made, with additional gear from sponsors. Participants can receive an eco-medal that can be turned into a jute ribbon medal.Requirements
A good quality headtorch is compulsory for the race. Due to the variable Scottish weather, all participants must be self-sufficient. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.The Saltire 24 is a 24 hour ultra running event in the North East of Scotland. Now scheduled for Saturday 20th of June - Sunday 21st of June 2026. We invite you to celebrate midsummer by running through the beautiful Aberdeenshire scenery and testing your stamina! This lapped endurance trail running event is set at the superb outdoor sports facility of Knockburn Sports Loch. It will have three race options: either 24 hours, starting at 10.00 on the Saturday of the event weekend and finishing at 10:00 on Sunday morning, 12 hours, starting at 10.00 on Saturday morning and finishing at 22:00 on Saturday evening and 6 hours, starting at 10:00 on Saturday morning and finishing at 16:00 on Saturday afternoon. Participants will follow waymarked trails within the confines of the Knockburn estate. For teams: please note that only ONE team member will be running at any time. The lap distance is 4.2 miles, which means determined athletes can achieve to run 100 miles, a ‘century’, within 24 hours if they complete 1 lap per hour. Fixed and mobile safety marshals and medics will be located around the course. Limited serviced camping will be available for the duration of the event. Peripheral support will be available at the event base in the Sports Academy and there is access to the shower block next to the conference centre.
We are LGBTQ+ friendly. We are non-binary friendly. You can enter our race as female, male or non- binary. All event portaloos are gender neutral.
