Run Like The Wind 10K & Fun Run
The Run Like The Wind 10K is a fantastic new road race, along with a family fun run, on the scenic Walney Island. With its flat profile, coastal scenery, and supportive atmosphere, Run Like the Wind is perfect for experienced runners, first-time 10k participants and families taking part in the fun run. The fast, scenic, flat 10km two-loop course is ideal for runners chasing a personal best as well as those simply looking to enjoy a relaxed run by the sea.
Course
The race begins at the Round House before heading out along closed roads towards the coast. Runners then join the beach path, where they will enjoy stunning coastal views across the Irish sea along the shoreline of Walney Island. The route continues along the seafront path heading towards Biggar Bank offering wide open views, sea air and the chance to run alongside the island’s famous wind turbines. After completing the first loop, runners return past the start area to begin the second lap before finishing on the front by the West Shore Club.
The course is flat and runs along minor roads and a beach path. It begins at the Round House, follows closed roads towards the coast, joins the seafront path along Biggar Bank and the shoreline, and returns past the start to complete a second lap before finishing on the front by the West Shore Club. The route offers coastal views and passes near wind turbines. The course is open to the public in places; runners should be aware of traffic, cyclists and pedestrians and follow marshal instructions. In line with UKA rule 240 S5 the wearing of headphones or similar devices is not permitted. The route is not suitable for wheelchair users. Dogs and buggies are not permitted.
