Round Ripon Ultra: Event Overview
The Round Ripon Ultra is a 35-mile circular trail race that commences and concludes at Studley Roger Village Hall, Studley, Ripon, North Yorkshire HG4 3AY. The route is undulating and follows the northern section of the Ripon Rowel, traversing trail, woodland, and moorland within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The finish includes a scenic run through Studley Royal deer park before returning to Studley Roger.
This event is ideal for those seeking to test their endurance over an ultra distance. It offers both an individual full course and a relay format for a five-person team. Four well-stocked, staffed checkpoints will provide water, sweets, cake, and savouries, with additional water stations on the course. Toilet facilities are available at the race headquarters and at Check Point 3. Complimentary tea and coffee are provided at the race headquarters.
Entry Fees:
- Solo: £45.00 affiliated, £47.00 unaffiliated
- Relay (per team): £75.00 affiliated, £85.00 unaffiliated
Entry Conditions:
- Participants must carry essential equipment for the conditions, including a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, emergency food, and water. A fully charged mobile phone with the race director’s number for emergencies is also required.
- Event Limit: 200 runners.
- Minimum Age: 20 years for individual runners, 17 years for relay team members.
Relay Teams: The relay event is designed for a 5-person team, with flexibility for competitors to run multiple legs. Approximate distances between checkpoints are: Start to CP1 – 7.5 miles, CP1 to CP2 – 7.8 miles, CP2 to CP3 – 3.9 miles, CP3 to CP4 – 8.3 miles, CP4 to finish – 7.5 miles.
Race Goodies: All full course finishers receive a medal and T-shirt. Each relay team member receives a T-shirt.
Trophies: Prizes and trophies are awarded to the top 3 male and female runners, as well as age category winners. A team trophy is presented to the five-person team (with at least one female runner, all from the same club) with the lowest cumulative time. There is also a prize for the fastest relay team.
Licence: Trail Running Association 3379.
Time Limit: The overall time limit for the event is 10 hours, with progressive cut-off times at specific checkpoints. Checkpoint 2 cut off time: 1:00 PM (4 hours). Checkpoint 3 cut off time: 2:30 PM (5.5 hours).
