River Ayr Way Challenge (Ultra Marathon)

Celebrate 20 incredible years of one of Scotland’s most iconic endurance events! The River Ayr Way Challenge returns this September — a spectacular 40-mile ultra marathon that takes runners on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Ayrshire.
Race Details:
- 40 mile ultra marathon through some of Ayrshire's most spectacular scenery.
- Opportunity to discover a little-known corner of Scotland.
- Checkpoints every 10 miles with fruit, cold drinks, and a friendly welcome.
- Water stations every 5 miles.
- Drop-bags conveyed to checkpoints.
- Rucksacks conveyed to the finish.
- Transport to the start of the race from Ayr or Kilmarnock available (chargeable).
River Ayr Way Ultra Marathon Relay
Teams can comprise two or three members, dividing the route into three sections:
- Section 1: Glenbuck to Sorn, 17 miles, mainly off-road, rural paths.
- Section 2: Sorn to Annbank, 14 miles, mainly off-road, rural paths with some on-road sections.
- Section 3: Annbank to Ayr, 9 miles, mainly on-road and tarmac paths.
Overall time allowed for the ultra and relay is 10 hours.
Registration at Glenbuck from 8 am. Start of race 9:00 am.
Important Information:
- Riverside Stadium facilities: male and female designated changing, toilet, and showering facilities.
- Parking available at the Stadium or Ayr Academy car park.
- Buses depart at 7:00 am from The Riverside Stadium and 7:20 am at Dean Castle Country Park (booking and £8 charge via Entry Central).
- Drop bags marked with your Race number and the appropriate Checkpoint Number can be left at registration.
- Running conditions in some sections can be very muddy.
- Race rules prohibit pacers, muling or support runners, dogs, running aids, and littering.
