About the race
The Rennsteig-Herbstlauf will take place in Oberhof on Sunday 4 October 2026. You can run between 10 and 33 kilometers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
The traditional Rennsteig-Herbstlauf over 20 kilometers is a cross-country run on parts of the Rennsteiglauf marathon course from May. It offers the opportunity to get to know a section of the original marathon course in autumn and thus prepare purposefully for the following year.
If you want a bit more, we recommend our trail over 33 kilometers, newly added to the program since 2020. Here you will experience that there are really great impressions to discover to the left and right of the ridge path, combined with paths and plenty of altitude meters.
We offer an alternative of 10 kilometers in addition to the classic 20-kilometer route and the trail. This is particularly suitable for beginners.
All routes are both attractive and demanding due to their profile and the autumnal weather conditions. Through cooperations with our partners, especially the main sponsor 50Hertz, there are numerous additional incentives for runners to participate in the autumn run. Every participant receives a finisher medal, certificate, and their personal finish line photo. The fastest and best-placed runners in the overall standings and age groups will be honored with medals, certificates, and prizes. Age group winners will receive their honors by mail.
The idea of organizing Rennsteig-Herbstläufe was born in 1975 by the running group of BSG Robortron Zella-Mehlis and later continued by the Haderhölzer Lauf- und Wanderfreunde. They achieved a proud 20 repetitions of the Rennsteig-Herbstlauf from 1984 to 2003 before the organization was handed over to the GutsMuths-Rennsteiglaufverein in 2011.
