Annual Orange Shirt Day Run & Walk - Purpose and Format
Indigenous Runner and Red Trail Running host an annual Orange Shirt Day Run and Walk on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Events are held in multiple locations including River Valley Walterdale in Edmonton, Rotary Park in Saskatoon, and Riverfront Park in Peace River. The series is part of RunConciliAction to honour and remember children who did not survive the residential school era and to hold space for survivors.
Event distances include:
- 2.15 km Kids / Elder
- 5 km Run and Walk
- 10 km Run and Walk
Courses combine wide track trail and some pavement. The Edmonton course runs through groomed trails in the North Saskatchewan River Valley; the Saskatoon course follows the Meewasin trail from Rotary Park.
Each participant receives a custom orange shirt and a wooden finisher medal featuring a hand carved feather. The event raises funds for local grassroots movements, supports Indigenous athletes, and aims to provide safe spaces for Indigenous runners.
The stated cancellation policy for weather or unforeseen circumstances allows a 50% refund plus a 2026 finisher/swag item or the option to roll the registration into 2027; no other refunds are offered.
