About
Join us as Cincinnati makes its mark on the map with the inspirational 2026 National Opal's Walk for Freedom, a powerful Juneteenth commemoration that honors not just the end of slavery, but the relentless journey toward true freedom for all. Spearheaded by the venerable Dr. Opal Lee, affectionately hailed as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth," this event unites us in a 2.5-mile walk on June 19. We tread this distance together, echoing the 2.5 years from the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation to when freedom's message finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Texas. With the support of local and national allies, including the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, we're calling on the Cincinnati community and visitors from afar to actively participate in this day of remembrance and celebration. This is your chance to walk shoulder to shoulder with fellow advocates of liberty, honoring the past, and stepping forward into a future where freedom rings out for everyone. Don't miss out on the opportunity to become part of this historical event and contribute to the ongoing story of freedom – every step you take is a step towards unity and justice.Opal's Walk for Freedom
