MVOC Cricket Holler Night-O / Search & Destroy-O
Hosted by: Miami Valley Orienteering Club
Event Director: Seth Moore
Step into the woods after dark for a fast-paced orienteering adventure at Cricket Holler Boy Scout Camp. This unique Night-O / Search & Destroy-O is designed for all experience levels—first-timers, seasoned navigators, runners, hikers, families, and friends.
What Is Orienteering?
Orienteering is an outdoor navigation sport where you use a detailed map (and optionally a compass) to find checkpoints scattered across the terrain. It’s part strategy, part speed, and part exploration—a real-world treasure hunt, after dark.
How the Night-O / Search & Destroy-O Works
Phase 1: Night-O (6:00–7:00 PM)
- Mass start at 6:00 PM
- 1-hour time limit
- Format: Score-O (find controls in any order)
- Goal: Punch as many of the 20 controls as you choose
- Scoring: Each control punched = 1 point
Phase 2: Search & Destroy-O (Starts at 7:00 PM)
- Controls are collected and returned
- Each control returned = 1 point
Strategy matters: speed, route choice, and teamwork can make the difference.
