Lundy Island Half Marathon
The Lundy Island Half Marathon is a 13.5 mile trail race that runs around and across Lundy Island. The course visits all four corners of the island, including a technical eastern coastal trail, undulating western clifftops, and a central spine with several side tracks. Tracks and trails are maintained by the Landmark Trust. The route is fully marked and marshalled, with first aid available on course and at race headquarters. Two aid stations are located at the North Lighthouse and at Castle Hill; both are visited twice. There is a 3.75 hour time limit for completing the course. Registration takes place on the village green outside the Marisco Tavern, which is also the start and finish area.
Entries are offered as a Raceboat package or as Non-Raceboat entry only. Raceboat entries include a day return trip to the island aboard the MS Oldenburg and the boat has capacity for 250 runners. Non-Raceboat entrants must make their own travel arrangements and can change the name on their entry before 6 June 2026. Every finisher receives a Lundy Puffin medal. Mandatory kit includes the capacity to carry 500 ml of water, trail shoes, a backpack or waistpack, head cover, a waterproof jacket, foil blanket, a collapsible or reusable cup, a fully charged mobile phone with the Race Director's number installed, and emergency food. Refund and withdrawal terms vary by entry type and date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
The first event of its kind on Lundy Island. Conceived by Outeredge Race Director Mark Brooks in 2018. The event has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, with a visit from the BBC Radio 4's Open Country giving it a nationwide platform.
We've had some amazing feedback and reviews of the Race, and quite rightly so.. The Lundy Island Race is very special, with runners coming back time after time to take on this tough and remote challenge out there in the Bristol Channel.
This is what makes the Lundy Island Race the most unique Trail running experience we have created so far. 13.5 miles of pristine, wildlife-encrusted tracks and trails, tended by the Landmark Trust, and open for us to run, walk or crawl.. Although we do have a 3.75 hour time-limit on the race, so please be aware of this to avoid disappointment.
During the race you will visit all four corners of the island, traversing the technical eastern coastal trail, and the undulating western clifftops, clinging to the precipitous slopes before running along the central spine of the island (as well as a few side-tracks).
You will definitely discover this beautiful and rugged island in all its glorious entirety..
We've procured the MS Oldenburg to get you to the island ship-shape relaxed and ready to go. The boat will take 250 runners. So when it is full, so is the race (unless you travel on the scheduled service the day before and stay longer).
The Lundy 'Raceboat' departs Ilfracombe harbour at 9am and arrives at Lundy at 11am. Race start-time is 12:15pm and the 'Raceboat' will depart Lundy at 6pm, giving you plenty of chill-out time after the race. We will arrive back in Ilfracombe harbour at 8pm.
*Please note that the Boat is solely for runners entered in The Lundy Island Race. Times may vary slightly from that published.
Upon arrival, you will walk up to race HQ in the village (approx. 15 minutes) to register and collect your race number.
Registration will be on the village green outside the Marisco Tavern. This is also the start and finish of the race.
Each entrant will receive a Day Return Trip to the island aboard the MS Oldenburg, and every finisher will receive the much-coveted Lundy Puffin medal.
The race will be fully marked and marshalled with first aid on course and at
