Leicester's Big 10K - Tempo Events
Leicester's Big 10K takes place on 11 April 2027 in Abbey Park, Leicester (LE4 5AQ). The event is a significantly flat 10K run held on a lapped course that stays largely inside and around the park.
The route starts within Abbey Park, completes a rough lap and follows the park perimeter before re-entering for a larger inner circle. The outside perimeter is run again and the finish lies about 700 metres from the final park entrance. Part of the course uses the canal towpath under licence from the Canal & River Trust. There is one water station located just before the 5K marker.
The race uses two start waves: one for runners who expect to complete the course in around 50 minutes or less and a second wave for other runners. Numbers and timing chips are posted to entrants in advance. Previous editions have attracted over 1,400 entrants.
Entry information notes early bird fees of £31 for club members and £33 for non running club members. The minimum age to enter is 15 years. A secure baggage drop is available at the finish and mobile toilets and urinals are placed within the park. All finishers receive a bespoke finisher medal. Prizes are awarded to the first three finishers in each gender for the first race and to first place in ten-year age groups starting at 35; age-group awards are based on finish time regardless of start wave.
Event partners include LWA, a local domestic abuse charity, and Fire & Earth Sports Massage which provides post-race massage. UKA rules permit only bone conducting headphones so runners must avoid in-ear devices. The organiser’s refund and transfer policy includes a full refund less a £2 administration fee up to six weeks before the race, restricted refunds or transfers after that point, and provisions for rescheduling or partial refunds if the event is cancelled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
Race Information/Overview
This beautiful and significantly flat 10K takes place in stunning Abbey Park in Leicester. The previous races have had over 1400 entrants choosing to take part in Leicester’s Big 10K either as their first ever 10K race or else the more experienced runners chose it to try and beat their PB’s.
The race will have two start waves – one at 9.00am for runners that expect to complete in 50 minutes or less and then its 10.20am for all the other runners. It is a lapped race and this prevents the front runners from catching the back markers which is no fun for anyone. Plus there are less queues for the toilets!
Numbers and timing chips will be sent in the post, closer to the race.
