Lakeland Trails Hawkshead
The Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead is a trail running event held on 10 April 2027. The event starts and finishes at Hawkshead Recreation Ground in Cumbria. Routes follow fully marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways with extensive views of Windermere and surrounding fells.
Courses
- 10 km Trail Run: Suitable for participants aged 16 or older, with a time limit of 2 hours.
- 16 km Trail Race: For competitive runners aged 18 or older, with a time limit of 2 hours.
- 16 km Trail Challenge: For less competitive runners and Nordic walkers aged 18 or older, with a time limit of 3.5 hours.
The courses include the infamous, mile-long, near-vertical climb known as the "Coffin Trail", mixed scenic trails, short tarmac sections, and some steep, rocky descents. Underfoot conditions are generally good for off-road running but parts of the route can be tricky.
Event facilities at the recreation ground include registration, baggage storage, traders, food stalls, and portable toilets. Competitors are advised to bring their own water and a reusable cup, as there are water stations on the courses.
