Lake Chaparral Triathlon - Calgary
Presented as Calgary's longest-running multisport event, the Lake Chaparral Triathlon returns for its 26th anniversary at Lake Chaparral. The event offers multiple formats for adults and children, including individual races, relays, duathlon and aquabike options.
Main distances:
- Standard: 1500 m swim, 38 km bike, 10 km run
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 19 km bike, 5 km run
- Tri It: 300 m swim, 9 km bike, 2.5 km run
- Open Water Swim: 750 m, 1500 m, 3000 m
- Duathlon: 10.3 km run, 38 km bike, 5.5 km run

The swim takes place in Lake Chaparral on a clockwise course, patrolled by motorized boats and lifeguards. Swim caps provided must be worn and athletes should signal for help if needed. Wetsuit rules are set by water temperature; swims are cancelled below 12°C and wetsuit requirements or prohibitions apply at stated thresholds. If the swim is cancelled, a duathlon will be held.
The bike loops through local communities and remains open to vehicle traffic; volunteers and police assist with traffic control. Helmets approved by common standards are mandatory, portable music players are prohibited, and drafting is not allowed. The run route follows sidewalks and park loops, with course marshals and aid stations in place.
All participants must hold current membership with Triathlon Alberta or their provincial governing body; a one-event day membership is available. Relay teams of two or three exchange via the transition area timing chip. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
