Laich o' Moray Challenge Walks
The Laich o' Moray Challenge walks are 30 and 50 mile circular routes with a time restriction of 14 and 24 hours respectively.
Both routes are common for the first 16 miles to Roseisle, at which point the LoM30 heads south to the Heldon Hill ridge, via Alves VH, where it rejoins the LoM50 route for the last 7 miles.
Start Date and time: 8am on Saturday 29th August 2026 (Marshal's walk on 8th August). Runners and jog-walk participants will set off at 10am.
Start/Finish Location: Rafford Village Hall, (grid ref NJ067556, W3W ///paper.dozen.blackouts)
The Route: From Rafford Village Hall, the route follows woodland to connect with the Dava Way LDP towards Forres. It passes Dallas Dhu Distillery, local community woods, parklands, and Sueno's Stone before heading to Findhorn. From Findhorn, it follows the coastline to Roseisle and Lossiemouth via beach and coastal paths. The LoM30 heads south at Roseisle to rejoin the LoM50 on Heldon Hill. The LoM50 route from Lossiemouth uses a disused railway line and minor roads to Elgin, then follows the River Lossie to the outskirts of the city, crosses Quarrel Woods and the A96, and continues through woodland to Miltonduff Village Hall before ascending the Heldon Hill ridge. Both routes rejoin on the ridge and continue to the Califer viewpoint before returning to Rafford. The event timing considers tide times for beach sections.
Participants: This LDWA challenge event is for experienced long-distance walkers and runners. Participants should have recently completed walks of over 25 miles for the 50 mile challenge.
Booking a place: Booking is via SiEntries only for both distances. The SiEntries booking system will go live on 1st March 2026. The combined events are restricted to 100 places. An event information pack, OS Explorer map 423 reference, GPX files and route descriptions are provided.
Camping: Camping on the adjacent playing field is permitted with restrictions; toilets in the hall are available but there are no showers.
