In Flanders Fields Marathon
The In Flanders Fields Marathon is the only official marathon in the Westhoek region of Belgium. Organized by vzw IFFmarathon, the 26th edition will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, through the protected IJzer Valley. This event also includes the 3rd Halve iffmarathon Ieper-Ieper.
Known as the most beautiful and flattest marathon in Belgium, it's also one of the cheapest official marathons (a true 42.195 km race measured by a certified official). Registration is open until August 1st or until full (750 spots for the marathon, 500 for the half marathon).
Start Times
The marathon starts at 10:00 AM. The half marathon starts between 11:45 AM and 12:00 PM near the market of Ypres.
Course
The exceptionally beautiful course runs through green polders and along the Yser and Ieperlee rivers between Diksmuide and Ypres, on the front line of the First World War, through Flanders Fields. The marathon starts in Diksmuide and finishes in Ypres, covering the official distance of 42.195 km. The start and finish of the half marathon are near the Grote Markt of Ypres.
This race carries a message of peace, in a region filled with harsh memories. It aims to keep alive the memory of so much senseless violence and horror.
Good Cause
Your participation supports a good cause. In previous years, organizations like 'Doctors Without Borders', the 'Children's Cancer Fund', and the Kim Phuc Foundation have been supported. In 2026, the chosen charity is again 'KOTK' (Kom op tegen kanker - Fight against Cancer).
Additional Options
- Estafette Marathon: The marathon can also be run as a relay with 5 runners. Registration for the relay is via email to [email protected] with the subject "estafette".
- Pacers: Pacers will be available to help participants achieve their target times.
The event is described as a race with character, where participation is more important than winning. It's an opportunity to run for peace on the battlefields of WWI.
