Break 4 the Border Half Marathon
Run Across Borders, Breathe in the Beauty
The Break 4 the Border Half Marathon invites you to lace up your shoes and take on one of the most scenic and unique races on the Irish running calendar. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the newly completed Greenway between Newry and Carlingford, this cross-border race offers runners the rare chance to travel from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland entirely on foot – all while soaking up some of the most spectacular views the island has to offer.
The Half Marathon kicks off in the heart of Newry, and after a brief road section, runners join the picturesque Greenway at Albert Basin. From there, the route winds along a peaceful path of tarmac and soft shingle, 90% traffic-free, hugging the shimmering coastline of Carlingford Lough. You’ll pass through the charming village of Omeath before finishing in style at the vibrant Carlingford Marina, where a festive atmosphere awaits to celebrate your achievement.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or taking your time to soak in the natural beauty, the Break 4 the Border Half Marathon is a must-run event—a celebration of community, movement, and the majestic landscape that connects us. Run across the border, embrace the views, and experience the magic!
Logistics include a bag drop in Newry with bags transported to the finish. Participants who park in Carlingford are transported to the start by bus, and those who park in Newry are bused back from the finish; entrants are asked to indicate their parking choice so organisers can plan buses. Race packs are posted to entrants, with a postal option that requires choosing either NI or ROI postage at entry and an additional postal charge indicated.
