About the Event
The Badger Challenge is a unique 6-hour endurance event designed for all abilities, allowing participants to run, hike, or walk as many laps of a 3.3-mile loop as they wish within the time limit. You can complete a single lap and go home, or push for over 50 miles by completing multiple laps. This format is ideal for those looking to extend their running distance, conduct a long training run, or enjoy a sociable event with friends.
Course Description
The course is set in the scenic Beacon Hill Country Park, offering breathtaking views. The route consists of a climb in the first half and a descent in the second, utilizing well-maintained crushed stone pathways. While the underfoot conditions are generally decent, they can become muddy depending on the weather. It's described as a tough but not overly technical route.
Distances and Laps
- 3.3 Mile Loop: You decide how many laps to complete within the 6-hour limit.
- Half Marathon: Approximately 4 laps.
- Marathon: Approximately 8 laps.
- 50k: 50 kilometers.
- 50 Miles: Over 50 miles can be achieved by completing many laps.
- 6 Hour Challenge: The ultimate distance is determined by your performance within the 6-hour timeframe.
Pricing
A tiered pricing approach is used:
- Before 26/01/2027: £38
- After 26/01/2027: £43
- Unaffiliated entrants pay an additional £2.
Discounts are available for joining a local running club or the Big Bear Brigade (10% off entries).
Canicross
Dog owners are welcome to participate with their dogs (canicross). Dogs must be kept on short leads and participants should be considerate of other runners. Canicross runners may have a separate start depending on numbers. Specific canicross rules are available.
Charity Partnership
The event partners with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Participants can opt to set up a Just Giving page or make a donation during sign-up, with 100% of donations going to the charity.

The event takes place at Beacon Hill Country Park, LE12 8TA. Parking is available for £2.50-£5.50 and can be paid by card or coin. The nearest train station is Loughborough, approximately 6 miles away.
