24 Hours South - The Offa's Dyke ULTRA
This is a 24-hour endurance event that starts on the North Wales coast at Prestatyn and follows the Offa's Dyke National Trail south. Solo runners and teams compete alongside each other; at the end of the 24 hours, the solo competitor and team furthest south on the trail are declared the winners. Teams must have between two and four members, and each team member must cover some distance. Changeovers may take place at any time, and more than one team member may be on the trail simultaneously.
The event uses GPS trackers to monitor progress and determine finish positions. Organisers provide six staffed checkpoints with food and drinks, some indoor facilities, and access to drop bags. All participants must have a dedicated support driver and vehicle to collect them at the end of their participation; support crews may meet competitors on the trail but must not carry items for them while on the route.
A mandatory kit list is enforced; required items include a full body waterproof cover, foil survival blanket, a minimum of 1 litre of water at the start, a charged mobile phone, map and compass, whistle, charged head torch, spare thermal layer, hat and gloves. Participants receive a medal and certificate.
