About This Event
2.2. takes the Kent Backyard Ultra Series to the Kent coast. This is a winter event with open ground and exposure, featuring one yard every hour until only one runner remains. Unlike woodland events, this offers cold air, open sky, and changing weather conditions designed to test endurance.
Why People Come Back
Every hour resets the race, fostering a sense of shared suffering and recovery. Strangers become crew mates, and competitors offer encouragement. The focus shifts from finish times to the simple question: "Can you do one more yard?" This is the essence of why Backyard Ultras are so compelling.
The Format
- One yard is 4.167 miles.
- A new yard starts every hour.
- Finish within the hour to continue.
- Be back in the starting corral before the bell; miss the bell and your race is over.
- There is only one finisher: the Last Person Standing.
- The Assist is the final runner to complete a yard before the winner.
The Venue
2.2. Dover takes place at Great Farthingloe Farm in Farthingloe Valley, near the White Cliffs of Dover. The basecamp is fully indoors in the Great Barn, providing shelter from winter weather. As a winter event, no outside structures are permitted.
The course runs along the top of the valley with wide open views across the Channel toward mainland Europe. In clear conditions, France is visible. This event is the closest UK Backyard Ultra to mainland Europe.
Conditions matter. Decision making matters. And every hour asks the same question: Can you do one more yard?
